Impending retirement of Bishop Power
The Report states that:
"Auxiliary Bishop of Canberra and Goulburn Pat Power, who will retire in June, said he was delighted with Monsignor Woods' election as administrator.
''John is a man of God with a truly pastoral heart, a keen intellect, a broad knowledge of the archdiocese and in possession of good people skills.''
A speedy replacement?
Interestingly (optimistically?) Mgr Woods expects an appointment to be made within three to six months.
Well I guess the thinking around this one may have been done some time back given the length of time that Archbishop Mark's move was rumoured to be occurring, but that seems mighty fast given the Vatican's recent track record!
Moreover, Australia still has two bishops still in place over the age limit (viz Hobart and Ballarat) whom it surely isn't intended to leave in place for an extended period, plus an appointment for the Ordinariate to be made.
And then of course there is still Wilcannia-[Forbes] to be officially sorted....
