I've previously argued that we have nothing to fear from Assisi III, planned for later this year.
On the contrary, we should, in my view, be supporting the Pope's ongoing efforts to put inter-religious dialogue on a sounder footing than they have been in recent decades. And the symbolism of 'doing Assisi right' is, I think, important to this process.
The Vatican have now put out a press release on the arrangements for it, and, as David over at Sentire cum Ecclesia points out, it seems to address every sensible concern you could raise - there are no shared ceremonies, rites or prayers, only opportunities for silent, individual prayer.
That's not stopping the Rorate crowd of course....
