Feast of St James
St James, son of Zebedee was of course one of the 'big three' of the Apostles, present with Peter and John (his brother) at many key events such as the Transfiguration. He was also the first of the Apostles to be martyred, by King Herod around 44AD.
His cult, of course, gained enormous popularity in the Middle Ages onwards through the pilgrimage to Compostella, where his relics lie. During the reconquest of Spain, he miraculously intervened to help the Christian cause, thus garnering him the title, 'Moor slayer'.
